Claude is a family of generative AI models and a conversational service introduced by Anthropic in 2023. It answers questions and generates or analyzes text and code, and is available through claude.ai and an API. Its models are divided by capability and cost into the Haiku, Sonnet and Opus tiers, numbered by generation (such as Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude Opus 5.5), with the top Fable tier above them. Claude Mythos 5.1 is the same model as Claude Fable 5.1 with different safeguards and is offered only through trusted access programs. Anthropic also runs application-based access programs: the Cyber Verification Program, which lets approved organizations perform dual-use cybersecurity tasks blocked by default, and the Life Sciences Verification Program, which gives verified life science organizations access under safeguards adjusted for biology research.

Claude is used for tasks including document analysis, writing and programming. It also underpins the developer tool Claude Code.
