GPT
GPT is OpenAI's family of large language models, which underpins ChatGPT and the OpenAI API.
GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is the family of large language models developed by OpenAI. Starting with GPT-1 in 2018, generations have been numbered, continuing with GPT-4 (2023), GPT-4o (2024) and GPT-5 (2025), followed by GPT-5.5, GPT-5.6 and the GPT-6 generation. Within a generation, models such as Sol, Luna and Astra differ in capability and cost.
GPT models are offered through the ChatGPT service and the OpenAI API for developers. The Transformer in the name refers to the neural network architecture that Google researchers introduced in 2017.
