Kimi is an AI assistant launched in 2023 by Moonshot AI, a Chinese AI company based in Beijing. The conversational service answers questions and reads and summarizes long documents; Kimi is also the name of the underlying series of AI models. Its models are named by generation, such as Kimi K2 and Kimi K3.
In 2025 Moonshot AI released Kimi K2, an open-weight mixture-of-experts model with about one trillion total parameters.
