Nano Banana is the name Google uses for the native image generation capability of Gemini, a family of image generation and editing models first released in 2025. The models accept written instructions and reference images to create new pictures or alter parts of existing ones, and are offered in the Gemini app and through developer tools such as the Gemini API.

The original Nano Banana model is officially named Gemini 2.5 Flash Image. Later versions include Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image) and Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image).
