WebMCP
WebMCP is a proposed web standard that lets websites expose their functions as tools that AI agents in the browser can call.
WebMCP is a proposed web standard led by engineers at Google and Microsoft and discussed in a W3C community group. A web page registers JavaScript functions as tools, each with a name, a natural-language description, and an input schema, so that an AI agent in the browser can call those functions directly instead of reading the screen and clicking buttons.
Its name and concept come from the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a specification for connecting AI models to external tools. Whereas MCP typically provides tools through a separate server, WebMCP provides them within the web page a user has open.
