A microVM is a virtual machine stripped of the devices and features that a typical virtual machine includes but many workloads do not need. Because it relies on hardware virtualization, it isolates workloads more strongly than containers while starting far faster and using less memory than a conventional virtual machine.

MicroVMs are used for serverless computing and for environments that run code from many users side by side. Firecracker is a well-known implementation.
