Stuart Russell is a British-born computer scientist and professor of computer science at the University of California, Berkeley. The textbook he co-wrote with Peter Norvig, Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach, is one of the most widely used AI textbooks in universities.

He founded the Center for Human-Compatible AI (CHAI) at Berkeley and in 2019 published Human Compatible, which argues that AI systems should act on uncertainty about human preferences. He is a leading voice on the risk of AI escaping human control and on design principles to prevent it.
