SCIM, short for System for Cross-domain Identity Management, is an open standard that defines a format and API for exchanging user and group information between systems. It was standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force.

Businesses use SCIM so that creating or removing an employee account in their identity management system automatically applies the same change to connected work services. Unlike SAML or SSO, which handle sign-in, it covers creating and managing accounts, a process known as provisioning.
