Paul Erdős (1913–1996) was a Hungarian mathematician who worked across number theory, combinatorics, graph theory and probability theory. He wrote an exceptionally large number of papers with hundreds of collaborators, and the Erdős number, which measures a mathematician's collaborative distance from him, is named after him.

He posed many unsolved problems, some with cash prizes attached, and these Erdős problems have become research targets for mathematicians.
