Erwin Schrödinger (1887-1961) was an Austrian theoretical physicist. In 1926 he published the Schrödinger equation, which describes the wave behavior of matter and became a foundation of quantum mechanics. He shared the 1933 Nobel Prize in Physics with Paul Dirac.
In 1944 he published What Is Life?, a book that examined living things from a physicist's point of view and influenced the researchers who later founded molecular biology.
