electronic design automation
Electronic design automation is the category of software used to design, simulate and verify semiconductor chips and electronic circuits.
Electronic design automation, usually shortened to EDA, covers the steps a chip goes through before manufacturing, such as circuit design, logic synthesis, placement and routing, and timing, power and thermal verification. Because modern chips contain billions of transistors, these tasks cannot be done by hand, which makes EDA an essential tool for the semiconductor industry.
Synopsys and Cadence Design Systems are the leading EDA companies. As more companies design their own chips for AI computing, vendors are also adding AI to EDA tools to assist with design work.
