Elasticsearch is a distributed search and analytics engine created by Shay Banon, first released in 2010 and developed by Elastic. It stores documents in indices that are split into shards and distributed across nodes, and it provides full-text search and aggregations through a REST API. Together with Logstash and Kibana, it forms the Elastic Stack, also known as ELK.

It is widely used for log search, observability analytics and application search. Its Index Lifecycle Management (ILM) feature automates when indices roll over and are deleted, and Elastic Cloud on Kubernetes (ECK) is the official operator for deploying and running Elasticsearch on Kubernetes.
