Chain-of-thought refers to intermediate reasoning presented by an AI model as a sequence of steps, or to a method for eliciting such reasoning. It is used in large language model problem-solving and evaluation, in contrast to providing only a final answer. The written steps do not necessarily reveal all of a model’s internal computation.
