OpenSpec is an open-source command-line tool developed by Fission AI. It brings spec-driven development to AI coding assistants by having people and AI agree on a change in a written spec before any code is modified.

A repository that uses OpenSpec keeps its current specifications separate from proposed changes. Each change gets its own proposal, task list and spec updates, and once the work is implemented the change is archived and merged into the main specifications. It is designed to work alongside AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Cursor.
