merge queue
A merge queue lines up changes waiting to be merged, tests each one against the latest code and merges them into the main branch in order.
When many pull requests target the same branch, a merge queue tests each change combined with the latest main branch and with the changes ahead of it in the queue, and it merges only the changes that pass, in order. Its purpose is to stop changes that pass on their own from breaking the main branch once they are combined.
GitHub offers this as a feature called merge queue, and GitLab offers a similar feature called merge trains. Because waiting times can grow as the volume of changes rises, some setups test several queued changes together as a batch.
